Abstract

Depression is a disease with variety of mental and physical symptoms affecting the mind, and the soul of its patients. Depression has always been of one of the most important critical ,mental, psychological and clinical condition because of its interference with our physical and social life estimated around 7% of the population, including 5%among adult and 5.7% among adult older than 60 years as of WHO estimation there are an approximate of more than 280 million people in the world have depression and more diagnosed annually with increasing prevalence among all age group and genders global percentage of 5% of adult suffer from the disease.
We made this research because of the increasing rates of suicide in many region THI-QAR also a close friend told us that he is having a suicidal which is horrifying. Observational, descriptive cross-sectional study that analyzes data of variables collected at one given point in time across a sample population. the data collection was by using an electronic questionnaire. Data analyzed by (SPSS) version 26 to estimated frequency , percentage , Chi-square test , Fisher exact test , and logistic regression , in all cases p-value <0.05 was considered as statistical significant. The study was done at different ages with different jobs. This study was on all populations of Al-Nasiriyah city, between the age of 15 years and above and among all occupations (employer, students, unemployed ...etc.) and who were on point prevalence, and one-year prevalence of depression with exclusion of Everyone outside Al-Nasiriyah city,
The total number of samples collected from this study is (1010 samples), and the number of males in the study are (229), the number of females are (771) and there are (10) persons did not mention if they are males or females but according to other details in questionnaire we could know them if they are males or females Life events such as childhood abuse, loss and unemployment can contribute and catalyzes the development of the disease. So decreasing the risk factor of depression play a major role in the prevention rather than the treatment of the disease now there are some thoughts of healing depressive patient can lead to the healing of another so curing is a multivariate aggregating process .It is also recommended that any person visiting a doctor should always be having their mental issues profile or psychological profile reviewed because of depression being a preventable disease this recommendation is the cornerstone of eliminating the disease in the community and more important than the treatment. Other recommendations on lifestyle modification; eating healthy ,getting enough sleep , exercise, participate in social activities , medical treatment and Vitamin D provided by your primary health care physician and going through a psychotherapy or a light therapy in more sever types.
