Myopia among secondary school student: Prevalence and determinants
Abstract
Myopia is the leading cause of preventable blindness in children and young adults. Multiple epidemiological studies have confirmed a high prevalence of myopia in Iraqi countries. However, fewer longitudinal studies have been performed to evaluate the secular changes in the prevalence of myopia, especially high myopia in Iraq. In the present study, we investigated trends in the prevalence of myopia among high school students in Thiqar , northern Iraq, in 2022. Our aim is to determine Prevalence of myopia among high school student in Thiqar Result: this study revealed that (97%) have myopia while (21%) don’t have and the study also revealed that myopia more common in female than male students (400,205) respectively. Method: It is observational cross-sectional study. Which has been held in Thiqar , Iraq It was performed on 605 male and female participants among Thiqar secondary school students with the questionnaire was shared on the internet during February, 2022. The results obtained by use of google drive services and use Microsoft Excel for data analysis. Conclusion: visual impairment is not only related to students of the secondary, but is related to a family history, the use of the smartphone, computers, tv, electronic games for long periods, and the way of lifestyle as well. Therefore, the examination must be taken from time to time when you feel any problem in vision. Also, the smartphone, computers, tv, electronic should not be used for long hours, following a health system.
