Evaluation of Depression level and mental health status extent and determinants in Al-Nasiriyah city- Thi-Qar - 2022: survey study

Abstract

justification: Seeing the large number of suicide cases in Al-Nasiriyah city / Thi-Qar governorate at the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022 prompted us to think about conducting this study to assess mental health in the city of Al-Nasiriyah to see if the deterioration of the psychological state, depression and sensitivity to certain things is the reason behind the large number of cases suicide during this year.Aim: To evaluate mental health and identify the level of depression in our society 2022. This survey is targeted to give knowledge about the approximated number of persons who have depression, that might aid us in case management. Methodology: cross-sectional analytical study which analyzes data of variables that are collected at one given point in time across a sample population. We can defined this study as a type of research design where the data is collected from different individuals at a single point in time. And this study was conducted in Al-Nasiriyah city/ Thi-Qar governorate extended from (1/2/2022 to 15/5/2022). And the data analysis was by using an SPSS Version26. Results: There was significant statistical association between severity of depression with age, gender, occupation where p value <0.001, the over all prevalence was very high (84.3%.), sever type constitute only 2.9%. moderately sever (10.6%), moderate (36.6%) while mild form represent (34%). Recommendation: decreasing the risk factor of depression play a major role in the prevention rather than the treatment of the disease now there are some thoughts of healing depressive patient can lead to the healing of another so curing is a multivariate aggregating process . Other recommendations on a personal level Includes lifestyle modification; eating healthy ,getting enough sleep , exercise, participate in social activities , medical treatment and Vitamin D provided by your primary health care physician and going through a psychotherapy or a light therapy in more sever types of depression.
